2004 Row Eleven: Very aromatic and fully flavored.

june 11, 2010: victoria prepared grilled salmon marinated in a dijon mustard sauce that can be found via http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/asian-grilled-salmon-recipe/index.html. earlier, she stopped by winetree for a pinot noir. the owner recommended a full-flavored californian to match what ended up being a very powerfully seasoned salmon. this salmon had so much seasoning that we think it might be better to use this marinade with a milder fish since the mustard/soy sauce disguised the natural flavor of the salmon.

this santa maria valley californian, by the way, was everything it was promised to be. we both got plums and earthiness to the nose, and it was a strong enough match with the salmon. in fact, this was one of the most aromatic wines we've had in some time, though it could have been a bit more structurally elegant. victoria prefers silky pinot, and it was a bit acidic with inklings of roughness. about $36. high-octane at 14.9 percent alcohol.
